What Is Golf Therapy?

Golf Therapy integrates licensed mental health counseling principles with the natural rhythm of
the game. Sessions occur while walking the course, which allows meaningful conversations to
occur in a comfortable, movement-based environment rather than a traditional office setting.

2

Why Golf Works Therapeutically

• Moderate physical activity supports mood and emotional regulation
• Natural environments help regulate stress and the nervous system
• Side-by-side activity reduces pressure and encourages conversation
• Golf promotes reflection, patience, and mental focus
• Social play strengthens connection and reduces isolation

3

Potential Benefits
for Men

• A relaxed and comfortable environment for meaningful conversations
• Support for stress, anxiety, life transitions, and relational struggles
• Improved mental focus and emotional resilience
• An alternative option for those who may not pursue traditional therapy

Mental Health Benefits of Golf

Golf naturally combines movement, time in nature, and social connection—three factors consistently linked to improved mental health. Emerging research shows that activity-based counseling environments can reduce stress, improve emotional regulation, and increase engagement in mental health support, especially among men.

"As far as my thoughts on the Golf walk and talk therapy ….

Being able to work through different aspects and challenges in my life through this medium has been transformational for me. I feel much more present in sessions. It’s helpful being able to make comparisons between the game of golf and life which has allowed me to explore my emotions in ways I was never able to in a traditional setting. I’m also truly seeing a level of elevated enjoyment (sure some aspect of it is just being able to go play golf) but at the same time it’s because I know not all the attention is going to be on me every moment of the session. I feel when I say something deeply personal or open up and be vulnerable; it overall feels like there is less pressure or an awkwardness. I can’t quite describe it, but the best part is the follow up. I feel like I’m able to remember what we’ve discussed in our sessions a lot more and actually take action upon those things in my daily life."
